Marshmallows and Tents

One evening in September Silas, Eli and I made a tent with some blankets.

The boys and I could all wiggle in and we added some pillows to lay on.

We had used marshmallows in a science experiment that day, so we ate some for snacktime.

It lasted about half an hour before Eli pulled it down.

I couldn't get them to look at the camera at the same time because they were giggling so much.

Silas climbed up on the couch and Eli followed.  It made a tight squeeze.  It was when Eli decided to stand up that the tent got pulled down.

U6 Soccer 2012

Silas got a bunch of soccer gear from his grandma in preparation for his first practice.

We thought he looked just like a professional.

First practice.  He's the one with the blue arms.

He LOVED it.  He had the biggest grin on his face.

He didn't really care for the dribbling practice, but the actual playing part was really exciting for him.

Eli enjoyed watching with Grammy.

He always had an eye on Silas.

First game!

In his team uniform.

Rehydrating.  It was cool outside but really sunny.  Perfect weather, really.

There are a lot of kids, so they all practice together on Thursdays (which Christian can't make because of work) but divide into teams for the games on Saturdays.  So Christian gets to coach his games on Saturdays!

Silas is the tallest kid on his team.

U6 soccer only puts three players on the field at a time.

It surprised me how well the game went.  They all knew which way they needed to kick the ball and didn't crowd in too much.

They'll learn to spread out and pass in the next year or two.

Eli played with the towel and Charlotte's wallet.

Christian coaching Silas on how to kick off.

There he goes!

Char joined us for his first game, too.

Eli had both Grammy and Auntie Char with him.  He enjoyed himself.

As a side note, Christian's men's team is also still playing.  He managed to coach Silas' game then run over and make the second half of his own game.

Belly Buttons and Smiles

"What's under my shirt I wonder?"

"It's a belly button!"

"Aah!  Tickling!"

Silas decided to work on his smile.  We decided this was a little too much.

This was nice but not quite big enough.

Too much teeth.

We thought this was just about perfect.

Making Fossils

Silas is studying rocks in science.  We did this experiment when he learned about fossils and sedimentary rocks.

Eli helped too, by adding cars to the picture.

It's a frequent thing he does.  Everything's better with some toy cars, right?

We got a couple of small toys and nuts and put a thin layer of petroleum jelly on them.  Then we made impressions of them in modeling clay (that's the red and orange stuff you see).  Next we poured some Plaster of Paris into the molds.  Then we went off to church while the plaster dried.

They both love getting to do this type of stuff.

Silas looking at his molds.

When we got back from church it was all dry.  I couldn't get a great picture because of the lighting but this is a 'fossil' of a knight army man.  We could see his shield, helmet and sword really well.

So proud of their creations.  Silas thought it was great and showed off his real fossil to his daddy the next day.

Eli was proud of his little acorn fossil.

For Any Fan of Star Wars

I just had the following conversation with my nearly 6-year-old:
Me: "Silas, do you like Jar Jar (of Star Wars)?"
Silas: "Yes."
Me: "What?! No! You're not supposed to like Jar Jar!"
Silas: "What do you mean? Why can't I like Jar Jar?"
Me: "Because he's annoying."
Silas: "How wude!"  (Seriously just said that...)
Silas: "What don't you like about Jar Jar?"
Me: "He's just a bit silly."
Silas: "Mummy, just because someone is a little silly doesn't mean you shouldn't like him because of it."

I think I just got told by my own son.
