The Twins

We had the twins out at our house a couple of weeks ago.

It was fun.  Wild and crazy fun.

Enjoying some suckers.  I love this picture because they are so messy and dirty, but enjoying themselves.

"Don't take my picture.  That's enough."  I later found Sadie's sucker stuck to the handrail.

Bath time!

I have some other great photos of them, but they're naked and I can't publish them on the internet.

Then we went to their house and had some fun in the sprinkler.

A cheese grin with a mouth full of hot dog.

And I killed a tarantula.  It doesn't look that big, but it was actually the biggest spider I've ever seen.  And I've seen some big wolf spiders, both out in the country and out at the beach.  Huge.  Just the body was probably 2.5 inches long and 2 inches wide.

Might I just add that I'm the one that lives in the country.  My sister lives in the city (relatively) and she's the one that gets tarantulas and black widows and brown recluses.  Maybe the snakes out here eat them.  I'll have to save the snake vs spider debate for another fictional post, but I'll leave you with this:  at least my dog lets me know when there's a snake around.  That's a good girl, Chewy.

Fun At The Twins' Birthday Party

My sister's twins turned one this month.  They invited over some family to celebrate.

Someone just woke up from a nap.  Can you tell?

I'm not sure if Eli is crying because Sadie is hitting him, or if he's crying and Sadie is trying to pat him.

I can't believe they're one.  They are both adorable and cuddly.  I just want to squeeze them all the time, except Eli won't let me.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

We've been trying to get the twins adjusted to a 4-hour schedule at night.  The first 2 nights went really well and the twins got a couple of good solid hours of sleep in there (and hopefully my sister, as well).  But last night wasn't so well, and it's gone into today.  Sadie woke up at about midnight last night and hasn't slept well all day, either.  She sleeps for a few minutes, then wakes up with sharp cries and is hard to get back to sleep. Wyatt's done better than Sadie, but he's still not sleeping solidly.

This is how it goes with newborns, though.  You have good days and bad days.  Unfortunately, since the twins were a bit premature I think their newborn days are going to last a little longer than most babies.  Eli has also been having an off day, waking up early out of his naps and wanting to eat sooner than he should.  Maybe he's going through a growth spurt.  He's definitely getting big.

A few minutes of sleeping together.

Giant Among Us

Eli:  "I'm really not quite sure of this."
"I guess it's not too bad."

"I suppose we can do this."

Introducing

SADIE AND WYATT!!

Here's my little niece, Sadie Jane. I wanted to sneak her in my bag and take her home with me, but I think they might have noticed her missing.
I got to feed her and hold her first. She was perfect.

Because they're still so small, Silas wasn't able to hold or touch them. He really wanted to give them kisses and stroke their heads, like he does with Eli. They need to get a little bigger before they can handle Silas germs.

This is Wyatt. I got to feed him at their next feeding, and I got to hold him for a good long while. He'll be tumbling around with Eli before too long.

They both have lots of hair. It will be interesting to see if either of them get Shana's red, curly hair or JD's brown straight hair, as well as what color their eyes turn out to be.

Getting to feed Sadie. Poor Silas kept creeping closer and closer, trying to get a good look, instead of standing slightly back like he was supposed to.

Where did this giant come from? Only six weeks older than his cousins, he weighs more than them put together. No worries, I'm sure they'll catch up soon! Besides, with JD's genes versus Christian's genes, Wyatt will probably end up being a lot bigger than Eli.

It was a long day, trying to remember to stay a couple of feet back, having to use sanitizers on his hands, watching loads of cartoons while Mommy fed the twins. It's a tough life being the older cousin. I tried to make it up to him with a chocolate shake from Sonic, but he didn't get very far on it before this happened.

Shana and JD are holding up really well to the demands of newborn life times two. I'm so glad we moved up here in 2007 and I get to be close to Shana at this time in her life. She's always been the best big sister ever, and I'm so proud of her.
