My husband's parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary over the past weekend. They celebrated with a 14-day Mediterranean cruise, visiting Ephesus, Naples, Rome (where they got to visit Paul's prison), and many other locales. We didn't want such a grand accomplishment to go by as if it was any other day, so we threw a party for anyone State-side that knew my in-laws.
Of course, we couldn't just let it be any old party. We made it a Fancy Dress Party, or, in American-English, a costume party. Everyone had to wear ruby red (for their 40th Ruby anniversary) or clothes from the 70s.
I especially liked my sister's red high heels.
Christian's younger sister and her husband.
Our friends, the Whiteleys
Christian's older sister and her family (with 11-day-old Z).
Christian, me and Silas. Eli was in bed by the time the party got going.
Playing one of his parents' favorite games: Tell Me. I'm pretty sure I have a picture of my dad in a very similar outfit.
Silas trying on Christian's wig.
My nephew. I really wanted to draw some chest hair on him.
We set up a slideshow with pictures of my in-laws from over the years, and had disco playing in the background. The Bee-Gees definitely set the mood.
Hi Mum and Dad!
The party-goers thinned out once it got past 9:30, but we still managed to have several good "Night Fever" dancers. Silas got to stay up late with all the cool people.

The happy couple who were the inspiration for the party, and an inspiration to us all. Cheers, Mum and Dad and thank you for your love, faithfulness, and commitment to each other. It makes me look forward to 40 years with your wonderful son.
